Your Realistic Wardrobe for College During Covid

One of the most liberating things about going to college for me was being able to try new styles and wear what I pleased. It was so fun to have different occasions to dress for that weren't limited by strict dress codes and small town critics. I was able to try new things and grow a university wardrobe that I really liked (and am still working on, if I'm being honest.)! I loved going shopping for party clothes and figuring out what kind of looks would transition well from classroom to dates, gym to lecture, or studying to girls night in.

This year, however, I'm not spending money on a "returning to campus" closet. I am begging you, whether you're a new college student or returning, to not waste your coin either!

If your university hasn't already planned for all online classes, you're probably still stuck with a hybrid of in-person lecture, online class, and a limited use of the spaces and amenities your campus usually offers. On top of that, any free time you'd spend at club or frat parties is most definitely not happening this year. While I'm all for wearing what you please, I don't think it's too farfetched to say that this is the year of comfy and cozy! But just because you'll be comfortable doesn't mean you can't be stylish.

Today I have compiled a list of closet must-haves for college during Covid-19 that you'll actually wear and still feel cute in! The best part? You probably have most of these pieces in your closet already!

1) Bodysuits: Bodysuits are so easy to style and super comfortable to wear. They're a very versatile piece that you can pair with just about anything and wear year-round. I love wearing them with jeans, fun sneakers, and a cardigan for a casual outfit that works day and night. I also love pairing them with joggers for a more comfortable lounge look; just add sneakers and a jean jacket and you can head to class or go shopping!

If you don't own any basic bodysuits, T.J Maxx, Marshals, Nasty Gal, and Forever 21 have great quality ones for cheap. Zara is also famous for their bodysuits that fit like a glove.

2) T-Shirts: Big, baggy t-shirts are a classic running to class look, but there's a way to make it look more put together. Try pairing them over biker shorts, adding chunky sneakers, and layering on some gold necklaces and rings for a stylish athleisure fit. Or find a t-shirt dress to layer over a long-sleeve undershirt. My favorite way to style a bigger tee is by pairing them with larger/baggier pants, specifically mom jeans or wide leg jeans. It gives a tom-boyish, 90s feel that I love! It's so simple to throw together but looks as if it was very well thought out.

3) Overalls: I absolutely love the look of overalls, and I am desperately trying to add more into my closet. I currently have a pair of tan, linen overalls from Old Navy and they are my new favorite piece of clothing! They're just so comfortable and easy to wear with just about anything. Denim overalls can add a more boyish, grungier style to you closet, while linen or cotton overalls add a more bohemian feel. I personally love wearing mine over a simple tube top, and in the fall and winter I'll layer chunky sweaters under or over! Some people may be wary of overalls because they aren't sure how to style them; as long as you pair them with the right accessories and hairstyle, you're sure to look great! No need to worry about looking like a toddler.

4) Knit Pants: Ribbed knit pants are everything! I have an amazing pair from Modern Vintage that are so soft, I never want to take them off. These look good with t-shirts, crop tops, sweaters, and bodysuits! I love wearing mine with tiny crop tops and sandals for a more fancy day look. Knit pants are great because they have the comfort of yoga pants or sweats, but look more polished and presentable.

5) Masks: Obviously, this will be a necessity in your wardrobe this year. There are plenty of really cute and inexpensive ones on Etsy, Bauble Bar, and Old Navy! I bought a pack from Old Navy the other day that seem to be pretty decent quality.

6) Button Ups: Button up tops are classic and stylish, but they can also provide a relaxed and dreamy feel to your look. Instead of having them buttoned up completely, try leaving them open over bra tops and flowing trousers. You can also wear them untucked with some buttons undone over baggier jeans, or the front tucked into a pair of denim shorts paired with booties. It looks super chic, but takes barely any time to throw together and is so comfy!

What are some of your must-have clothes for school? What is something you'll be wearing constantly during all or mostly online learning? While I love getting dressed as a way to motivate me to be productive and embrace the day ahead, I also know I'll be getting a ton of use out of my leggings and hoodies this year.

I hope you enjoyed this weeks blog post, and I can't wait for another post next week!
